Description
Crispy, homemade apple chips made with just four simple ingredients. These budget-friendly, gluten-free, and vegan snacks are perfect for kids and adults alike, offering a healthy alternative to store-bought treats.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3–4 large apples (about 1.5 lbs / 680g), such as Gala, Fuji, or Honeycrisp
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1–2 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup for vegan option)
- 1 teaspoon melted butter or coconut oil (optional)
- A tiny pinch of sea salt (optional)
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 225°F (110°C).
- Wash apples thoroughly. Core them and slice into thin, uniform rounds (about 1/8 inch thick).
- Place apple slices in a large mixing bowl.
- Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon over the slices. If using, add melted butter/coconut oil, salt, and vanilla.
- Toss until slices are evenly coated.
- Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Arrange apple slices in a single layer on the sheets, ensuring they do not overlap.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes, flipping the slices halfway through (around 15-20 minutes).
- Chips are done when dry, slightly browned at edges, and crisp to the touch.
- Remove from oven and let cool completely on the pans to crisp up.
- Drizzle with honey if desired and serve or store in an airtight container.
Notes
Thin slices are essential for crispiness. Low heat and long baking time prevent burning. Chips crisp up as they cool. Store in an airtight container with a paper towel to absorb moisture. They last up to a week at room temperature or 3 months in the freezer.
