Description
A quick, budget-friendly weeknight dinner featuring crispy fried shrimp coated in panko and drizzled with a sweet, spicy, and creamy Bang Bang sauce. Ready in just 20 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1.5 pounds frozen shrimp, peeled and deveined
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1.5 cups panko breadcrumbs
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 3 tablespoons sriracha
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- Optional garnish: chopped cilantro, sliced green onions, toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
- Thaw frozen shrimp in cold water for 10 minutes, then drain and pat them extremely dry with paper towels.
- Set up a dredging station with three shallow bowls: one with flour mixed with salt and pepper, one with beaten eggs, and one with panko mixed with salt and pepper.
- In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sriracha, honey, lime juice, sesame oil, and garlic powder to make the Bang Bang sauce. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Dredge each shrimp in flour, dip in egg, then press firmly into panko breadcrumbs to coat all sides.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking.
- Fry shrimp in batches in a single layer for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown, crispy, and opaque.
- Drain cooked shrimp on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Arrange shrimp on a platter, drizzle generously with Bang Bang sauce, and garnish with optional toppings. Serve immediately.
Notes
Ensure shrimp are completely dry before breading to prevent soggy coating. Do not overcrowd the pan when frying to maintain oil temperature and ensure crispiness. For a healthier option, bake at 400°F for 10-12 minutes or air fry at 380°F for 8-10 minutes. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or air fryer to restore crispiness.
