Description
A simple, refreshing iced vanilla matcha latte made with just five ingredients. Creamy, subtly sweet, and energizing, perfect for busy mornings or afternoon pick-me-ups.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon (2 grams) culinary grade matcha powder
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup (240 ml) milk of choice (whole milk, oat milk, almond milk, or other unsweetened plant-based milk)
- 1–2 teaspoons sweetener (simple syrup, honey, or maple syrup) to taste
- 1 cup (about 150 grams) ice cubes
Instructions
- Sift 1 teaspoon of matcha powder into a small bowl or cup to break up any clumps.
- Add 2 tablespoons of hot (not boiling) water (around 175°F / 80°C) and whisk vigorously in a zigzag motion until frothy and smooth with no lumps.
- Add vanilla extract and sweetener to the whisked matcha and stir until dissolved. Adjust sweetness to taste.
- Fill a tall glass with about 1 cup of ice cubes.
- Pour milk of choice over the ice to chill it.
- Pour the matcha mixture over the milk and ice, then stir to combine.
- Taste and adjust sweetness or vanilla if desired, then stir again and serve.
Notes
Use water that is hot but not boiling (around 175°F/80°C) to avoid bitterness. Whisk vigorously to dissolve matcha powder and create froth. Adjust sweetness to taste. For a frothier latte, shake milk in a jar before pouring. Store matcha powder in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. Make simple syrup ahead for faster dissolving sweetener. Drink fresh for best flavor; matcha and milk separate if stored mixed. Avoid freezing.
